About

According to one online survey i am an emmental cheese. I like overnight trains and fresh air. My interests are religion, music, art, and design. This site is ugly because i hate fun.

I highly encourage you to email me at [email protected].

If you happen to be a prospective employer: my life mission is to increase shareholder value and my favourite hobby is to do what i am told without second thought and without answering back. Nothing else on this site is likely to be of interest, but you may want to check out my linkedin.

Life Continues at the Square

Cover art for this short documentary my friends made about chinese aunties. I cannot take any credit for the documentary itself, but i can say that it is very sweet and definitely worth watching!

Bereft

My personal modifications to the excellent deft note-taking package for emacs.

a screenshot of bereft.

Bowl bowl

A bowl designed so that you never forget what it is. 如果你曾经看着一个碗却忘记了它到底是什么东西,这个上面写着“碗”的碗可能就是专门为你量身定做的 :)

A photograph of a small white bowl, painted with the word 'bowl' and the chinese character '碗'.

Wares and tares

A compilation album of unfinished musical projects from over the last three years.

A young person’s guide to art

A contribution to the tilde.town zine. This short pamphlet will not only teach you how to appreciate art, but also how to start making your own art. For any young person who is looking to get started in art but finds the whole idea of art overwhelming, this is the perfect place to start.

香山

An award-winning short film set in around the xiangshan hills in beijing, and shanghai.

Congregation

A short album i put together whilst in my mandatory lockdown period in beijing. All the instrumentation comes from whatever i had in my room.

When we awoke it was raining

A piece for cello and cello.

Solstice

A browser-based programming language and runtime designed for the live-performance of microtonal electronic music loops. Each tick, the source code is read by the runtime, manipulated, and returned in-place, such that the state of a performance is entirely malleable.

The beep/boop dichotomy

A short album written for three cellos and one voice, recorded on a tascam four-track synthesiser. The voice repeats biblical phrases as the underlying rhythmic element of each track. The cellos do other stuff. It bangs, but unfortunately was never digitised and the analogue original has been lost to time.

Unusual fellows

A collection of little people drawn on scraps of paper to pass the time while working in a crepe van.

Little Dreamer One

The first full album i recorded, mostly fairly acoustic track with guitar, ukulele, cajon, voice, etc. Songs written over the span of a couple of years, but the whole thing was recorded in only two days, in audacity.

Touch me (like i’m one of your french girls)

A tactile poetry book compiled during the first lockdown.

Lollipop for cello trio

A version of Mika’s excellent song arranged and performed by cellophane, a very short-lived cello trio, for an online concert during lockdown.

Space pineapple

Early experiments in screen-printing.

Unfortunately onion d’book

A very sad story about an onion. Written, drawn, and bound by me.
