Whenever I can, I take photos and that’s how a lot of them come together over the year. It’s my passion, whether it’s with my heavy Nikon and all the additional equipment or just with my smartphone: I love taking photos of different colours and shapes.

Some of them, exclusively still lifes, i.e. without people, are used here on this blog as header photos and this series tells you how and where I took these pictures.

In 2026, I started this new series of posts to document my favourite links of the month, in a slightly more automated way than my previous Discoveries, which were usually dedicated to a specific topic and created manually. There are simply so many gems on the internet that are worth mentioning, if only so that I can find them again quickly later on.

I work in the IT industry, so it’s perhaps not surprising that I’m not a fan boy of Facebook and other social media giants. You don’t pay with money, but with your data.

A few years ago, a few protagonists like Aaron Parecki founded an initiative called IndieWeb, which describes a counter design in terms of blogs, which I think is worth supporting and which I write about in this series from time to time.

From time to time I stumble across software or related solutions that amaze me for their elegance, cleverness or usefulness. Mostly no big solutions in terms of line of code or something like that, but great in terms of the idea or the implementation of its creator(s).

In this series I blog about those pearls, first and foremost, to remember them for me as well. A simple bookmark would not be appropriate.

Starting a new project is always exciting, especially when the building platform is totally new for oneself. As I started this blog in 2019 with Hexo, I had a good experience with JavaScript and some with Node, but no with EJS, Lodash and some of the other libraries Hexo is using.

This series is a little technical diary, how I started the blog and implemented my needs one by one. Learning by doing. Maybe some of my solutions are valuable to somebody else, who faces the same issues I had.

In the meantime, the “New” in the name of the series is no longer really appropriate, but I’m keeping it for the sake of tradition.

In this series I present have presented until 2025 some of the absolute pearls I found while reading. Stunning solutions or incredible tools, which I must first and foremost remember for myself, to try them out one day. It’s successor is the more automated series Link Journal I started in 2026.

In 2023 I discovered football for myself, in the form of the club of my hometown Wiesbaden (Hesse, Germany). How it came to this I have described in the initial article “My Hometown, My Club” of this series, in which I report in loose order of my experiences and encounters in the stadium and around it.

Years ago I chose Lightroom (Classic) as my favorite image processing tool and over the time I have developed many Presets to speed up the process and make my life easier.

But sometimes the effort is not justified or it is simply impossible to automate something, because of OS barriers or other show stoppers. Then it is better to optimize und document the manual steps.
