archive FAQ

what is fanfiction.lol?

a small, independent fan archive run by Brennan Kenneth Brown (brennan.day). it runs on the open-source otwarchive codebase — the same software that powers Archive of Our Own — but is not affiliated with the OTW in any way.

how do i post a work?

log in and click "post new" in your account menu. fill in the required fields (rating, warnings, at least one fandom tag) and write or paste your content. you can save drafts before publishing.

what file formats can i post in?

the editor accepts plain text and basic HTML. you can paste from a word processor and the editor will clean up most formatting automatically. rich text formatting (bold, italics, headers, blockquotes) is supported.

can i post a work in multiple chapters?

yes. you can set the expected chapter count when you post, and add chapters later from your work's editing page.

what are collections?

collections are curated groups of works — themed anthologies, exchanges, challenges, or just personal reading lists. any user can create a collection and invite works to be added to it.

what are series?

a series is a group of your own works that belong together — a multi-part story, a recurring universe, a set of related fics. works in a series appear linked on each work's page.

what are pseuds?

pseudonyms. you can post under multiple pen names from one account. readers see the pseud; your email and account name stay private.

what is the orphan account?

the orphan_account is a special system account. if you want to keep a work on the archive but remove your name from it, you can orphan it — it transfers to the orphan account and loses its connection to you permanently. this can't be undone.

how do i delete my account?

Account Settings → Delete My Account. your works will be permanently deleted unless you orphan them first.

something's broken.

email [email protected] or message @[email protected] on Mastodon. this is a one-person site so response time varies, but i do read everything.
